If you’re looking forward to jetting off to the sun-soaked Balaeric islands of either Menorca or Majorca, then you might be wondering what some of the best activities are for keeping you and (more importantly) the kids occupied.

The good news is there are bucket loads of attractions to visit and activities you can do for those days where lazing by the pool or beach simply won’t do.

Let’s start with Majorca before running through your options on the sister island of Menorca.

Best Family Activities On Majorca

There’s a whole host of places to visit if you plan on holidaying on the biggest island of Majorca. But let’s start with a family favourite, waterparks.

Waterparks

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to taking the kids off to a waterpark. There’s nothing better than seeing your little ones flying down the slides into the splash pools while you can relax (to a certain extent) and soak up the sun.

There are three water parks on this island. They are as follows:

Each of these waterparks has their own selling points, such as exotic animals at Aqualand. The Western Water Park and Aqualand are much bigger and have more of a theme park feel to them, whereas the Hidropark is much smaller and more laid back.

Palma Aquarium

No family holiday to Majorca would be complete without a visit to the Palma Aquarium. The whole family will be occupied for hours on end at this excellent marine park that boasts over 8000 animals spread over 700 species!

One particular feature of note is The Big Blue, which is the deepest shark tank in Europe. The aquarium is also one of the few attractions that is open all year round, perfect if you’re planning a winter sun getaway!

La Reserva Puig de Galatzó

If you’re a more outdoorsy family, then it might be a good idea to head to La Reserva Puig de Galatzó. This nature reserve is spread over 2.5 million square metres and offers a beautiful array of waterfalls, caves, grottos, and animals (including three brown bears) to keep you busy.

There are also outdoor activities available on-site, including zip wires, rock climbing, and a children’s playground. In other words, there’s something for everyone!

But what if you want to venture out to the smaller sister island of Menorca, or you’re using that as a base for your family holiday?

Best Family Activities On Menorca

Menorca is one of the smaller and quieter islands of the Balaerics, but that doesn’t mean that there is a shortage of things to do when you’ve had enough of the beaches.

Lloc de Menorca Zoo

Most kids love a trip to the zoo, so if your kids are looking for a change of scenery, the Lloc de Menorca Zoo is a great place to visit as a family. It’s only a 10-minute drive from the capital Mahon. This zoo centre houses native species of horses, goats, cows, tortoises, fish, and birds. There’s also a broad spectrum of exotic species from all over the world.

Within the park, there are wetland areas and even a lemur forest. Kids can get involved come feeding time, and there are plenty of opportunities for them to hold animals for those obligatory photos! There are picnic and barbeque areas, too, making this an excellent full-day excursion.

Jeep Safari

If your kids love the spirit of adventure, what better way to satisfy their need to roam than by tearing through the countryside in an open-top 4×4? These guided tours will take you to various ancient settlements (perfect if the big kids amongst you are big on history), and you’ll have plenty of fun bouncing about on the rough tracks in between.

The day will include parking up on a wild beach for a quick swim before returning to the start point. These Jeep Safaris certainly aren’t the cheapest activity on the island, but they are an incredible way to explore the island and will undoubtedly give you wonderful memories.

Boat Trips

While boat trips are obviously not unique to Menorca, the sheer number of idyllic coves and remote beaches mean it’s almost criminal not to venture out on a boat trip. There are numerous options, but we would recommend taking a smaller seven to ten-person boat (you can share or hire the whole vessel outright) from Cala Galdana that include drinks, snacks, and snorkelling opportunities during the two swim stops.

If that doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, then you can always head out on one of the bigger boats designated for larger tourist groups. They usually run from the bigger harbours such as Mahon or Ciutadella, and some of them are glass-bottomed to allow children to watch the fish below, and you move from location to location.
